A plant native to Brazil that is part of the bromeliad family, it is established in mountainous regions, often growing in rock crevices.

The clumps are usually quite small and form low, flattened rosettes.

Its leaves are leathery to the touch, they are borne in a rosette, forming a star-like overlap.

Its leaves have a very particular striped pattern, mainly creamy with pink shades, a central stripe and another one on the edges of olive green colour, which turns somewhat reddish due to the effect of the cold or the sun.

There are several varieties and hybrids with beautiful and striking leaf colouring.

The colours are yellowed by the lack of light, so it needs a formidable amount of light, but diverted from direct sunlight to retain an intense colouring.

The outlines are almost always somewhat wavy and usually bear small thorny elements.

Bark support not included.
