Tillandsia tricolor is an epiphytic species, native to Costa Rica, although it is also commonly seen in southern Mexico, at latitudes ranging from 600 to 2000 metres above sea level, where it lives in relatively humid and not very lush tropical and subtropical forests.

This specimen can be single or compound, the flower is purple and its inflorescence can vary between orange-yellow and green, hence the name of this beautiful air plant. Adult individuals create a flower from the base of the plant.

The name of the variety of tillandsia tricolor is the mixture of Tri which means as we all know "Three" and the word Color which also has the same meaning as in the Spanish language. This is why this variety of tillandsia has this name because it has three colours, green, blue and yellow. The plant is normally epiphytic which means that it does not need any substrate and can be adapted to any place and position.
